Define Vant Hoff’s Factor? what for is it used?

It Gives the actual extent of dissociation of an electrolyte in its aqueous solution which is defined as the ratio of moles of particles in the solution to the total moles of dissolved solute.

i.e Vant Hoff Factors (i) = Moles of particles in solution/moles of solute dissolved.

Vant Hoff’s Uses:

  1. Describing the non ideal behaviour of solution in colligative properties.
  2. Calculating the degree of dissociation of an electrolyte.
