Nucleophiles | Nature of Reagents |

  • Negatively charged or electron-rich or nucleus attracting species are called as nuclephile.

It is classified into 3 categories:

a. Charged nucleophiles: Negatively charged species are called nucleophiles. (e.g, H, OH, RO, CH3, X, SH )

b. Lone pair containing neutral nucleophiles: Neutral covalent compound, in which central metal atom has a complete octet, has at least one lone pair of electrons and all atoms present on the central atom should not be electronegative. (e.g, NH3, NH2-NH2, R3N).

c. Ambident Nucleophiles: Species have two nucleophilic centers, one is neutral and the other is charged.(CN, NO2)
